Episode 23 of the Great Things Tampa Bay Podcast has been released, and it’s a doozy.  Sure to divide this great metro area right down the middle.  The debate will be heated, the vocabulary colorful….

Which do you prefer?  The Florida State Fair or the Florida Strawberry Festival?

That’s right there’s two types of people in the Tampa Bay area.  Strawberry Festival lovers, and the State Fair Faithful.

Me?  I’m no different.  I’m not even going to pretend to be impartial.

Strawberry Festival is the best.

Maybe it’s because I grew up there and I remember getting out of school, meeting a friend on armband day and going to town, carefully balancing the overloaded food choices and whirlwind carnival rides.

Maybe it’s because I grew up next to Parksdale Farms (the actual farm not the store!) and remember the fun of running through the fields.

Now I have been to the State Fair a few times. It does have its appeal. It’s larger, has Cracker Country and there’s also a Skyride so you can look down upon the masses on the ground. Fun times.

But there is something special about the Strawberry Festival. And if you’re a country music fan it’s no contest, the Strawberry Festival wins hands down.

So can you go to both? Those of you with odd carnival fixations and/or iron constitutions the answer is a resounding yes. And I know a few people that fall into each category.

For those that just want to pick one, I will say while I have my preference, if you don’t want to make the drive or strawberries make you rage for some unknown reason, the Florida State Fair is also a great way to spend the day viewing exhibits, riding a few rides, and having your money taken by the carnival game booth workers.

Everyone knows those games are rigged!

So get out there, grab your significant other and have a great time!
